FAQs
Do you store my data?
No, we never store your data on our servers. Here's how it works:
- Your spreadsheet is processed directly in your browser (on your own computer)
- Only the necessary parts are sent to ChatGPT for processing
- The results come back to your browser
- Nothing is saved on our servers at any point
Think of it like using a calculator app on your phone - you enter numbers, get results, but the calculator doesn't keep a record of what math you did. Your data remains private and under your control at all times.
How do I get a CSV file from an Excel file?
For Windows users, converting your Excel file to CSV is simple:
- Open your Excel file and open the sheet that you want to export
- Click on "File" in the top-left corner
- Select "Save As"
- Choose where you want to save the file
- In the "Save as type" dropdown menu, select "CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv)"
- Click "Save"
- Excel might show a message about features not compatible with CSV - just click "Yes" to continue
Your CSV file is now ready to use with our service! You can find it in the location you selected in step 4.
How is this different from just pasting the data into ChatGPT?
Our service has several advantages over directly pasting data into ChatGPT:
-
Handles larger datasets: ChatGPT has limits on how much text it can process at once. Our service breaks down your spreadsheet row by row, so even large datasets get processed completely.
-
More accurate processing: By analyzing your data systematically, we avoid overwhelming ChatGPT with too much information at once, resulting in better quality insights.
-
Easy Excel integration: Results are formatted to be easily imported back into Excel, saving you time on reformatting and manual data entry.
-
Structured output: We ensure the processed data comes back in a consistent, organized format that works with your spreadsheets.
It's like the difference between asking someone to read an entire book at once versus reading it chapter by chapter - our approach is more thorough and gives you results you can actually use.
What if I have multiple columns that I want to be cleaned up?
Our service currently processes one column at a time. Here's how to handle multiple columns:
- First, process your initial column and download the results
- Then, upload your CSV again and select the next column you want to clean
- Continue this process for each column that needs processing
Think of it like washing dishes - you clean one plate at a time rather than trying to wash everything at once. This step-by-step approach ensures each column gets the focused attention it needs for proper cleaning.
While we can only handle one column at a time right now, this method allows you to methodically work through your entire spreadsheet to get all your data cleaned effectively.
What if I have two datasets that I want to be able to join together?
If you need to join two separate datasets, our service can help make this process smooth:
- First, use the "cleanup" function on one of your datasets
- Save the unique values from this output as your "master list"
- Next, when running "cleanup" on your second dataset, upload this master list
- Our system will ensure the values in the second dataset align with your master list
This approach creates coordinating values between both datasets, making it simple to use VLOOKUP or other matching functions in Excel. It's like creating a common language between two different documents so they can easily communicate with each other.
By establishing this master list of standardized values, you'll eliminate inconsistencies that would normally prevent accurate matching (like slight spelling variations or formatting differences), saving you hours of manual data cleaning.
